Recent Research Publications 1- Climate change perceptions and adaptations for dairy cattle farmers in Jordan: Case study in North East Region - Al-Dhulel Area Mysaa Ata, Mohammad Altarawneh, Motasem Al-Masad NEW MEDIT Download × Climate change perceptions and adaptations for dairy cattle farmers in Jordan: Case study in North East Region - Al-Dhulel Area This study was designed to investigate how dairy farmers of Al-Dhulel Cooperative Dairy Society (ACDS) perceive climate change, the adaptation strategies adopted by farmers to cope with the impact of climate change and the barriers to the adoption of these strategies. A 92 dairy farmers responded to a designed questionnaire that was developed to collect the data and covered farmers perception, adaptation strategies, and the barriers facing them towards adopting the strategies. The personal interviews with the farmers were performed during early January, 2020. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The main result obtained from the study that most of dairy farmers were aware of the climate change impact on dairy cattle performance and health. Furthermore, the adaptation strategies that were suggested have limiting factors according to farmers as a result of governmental and agricultural institutions restriction polices. Therefore, recommendations regarding new polices were suggested to facilitate the way of getting benefit from grants and financial support for improving dairy farms and to mitigate the effect of climate change on dairy cattle. The results of the study showed that the average costs of medjool date production was 2512.51 Jordanian dinner/donum(1000m2), and average returns was 6288.80 51 Jordanian dinner /dunum, and the gross margin was 5666.74 51 Jordanian dinner /dunum , and the profit was 3586.49 51 Jordanian dinner /dunum. The results of the study showed significant effects (p<0.05) of number date palms and farm size on the total production costs of production and total returns. The estimated cost function included average cost function, marginal cost function, the economic farm size of medjool date and cost elasticity. For at the average quantity produced in the studied sample, average cost was 1425.72 51 Jordanian dinner /ton , marginal cost was 1132.40 51 Jordanian dinner /ton while cost elasticity was 0.79. According to the findings of the study it is recommended encourage medjool date producers to increase the size of their farms, establish manufacturing industries that can utilize date palm bioproducts to help reduce the cost of date production, and establish an information and data base about the cost of production and efficient techniques. The study relied on cross section data, which was collected using questionnaire from, the sample size was 384 consumer from Amman city. Gender specific differences were tested. The results obtained have shown that females consumed more dairy products than males., and the degree of preference analysis shows not significant differences between males and females in consumption, and results confirmed estimates that factors independent associated inextricably significant effect on milk consumption. The study suggests the need to intensify campaigns and advertisements for local dairy products and promote them - on the factory - especially as there is competition between factory in the area studied, as well as a focus on product quality and intensify control over the factories by regulators, and suggestion marketing and promotional a strategies of domestic dairy products for example modified elements of the marketing mix and reducing product price. and Improving distribution efficiency of dairy products. ALTARAWNEH Bulgarian Journal of Agricultural Science Download × Determine the barriers of organic agriculture implementation in Jordan The main purpose of this study was to determine the barriers of organic agriculture implementation in Jordan, by using Likert scale. In this regard, the statistical population of the study was 32 experts of Ministry of Agricultural and the Faculties of Agriculture at university of Jordan and Mu′ta University. The results showed that there was a high cost of producing organic crops regarding economic barriers, while regarding social – cultural barriers there was a poor participation of the farmers. From legal and managing perspective, there was a lack of knowledge of some managers and politicians with organic agricul-ture. Therefore, financial support to farmer for producing organic crops, and organized and special training workshops on organic agriculture farming is needed. ALTARAWNEH Journal: 6- Economic analysis of carp fish farming in Jordan valley Mohammad Altarawneh, Ebraheem Altahat Scientific Journal of King Faisal University Download × Economic analysis of carp fish farming in Jordan valley Fish meat considered an important source of animal protein and rich of nutrient required for body growth development. This research aims to study the production of forty fish farms costs and determine the optimal size of production, optimum space, and comparing them with the size and space realized actually. Research results showed that feed accounted for %65 of total variable costs, and variable costs formed % 68.9 of total costs. The results also showed that the ponds make up %12 of the fixed costs. As the farmers do not achieve the optimal size of the production that reached %42.35 tons and there must be work to enable farmers to achieve optimum sizes that attain efficiency by increasing the size of cultivated areas towards optimal space reached to by the study, amounting to 25.82 donum. The average yield 54,000 JD during the breeding period, which lasted seven months, and net profit reached 9.800 JD, with the profit margin of 26.600 JD. Revenues ratio of costs to 1.18 and this indicates that every dinar invested in this project will give %18 of the Jordanian dinar. In light of the results of the study, it has been recommended that there is a need to provide fodders with accepted prices to the farmers as well as activating the role of agricultural extension in the field of fish farming. Mohammad Altarawneh, Ebraheem Altahat Journal: 7- Environmental awareness by vegetables farmers towards usage of pesticides in Jordan Valley Mohammad Altarawneh, Ebraheem Altahat Scientific Journal of King Faisal University Download × Environmental awareness by vegetables farmers towards usage of pesticides in Jordan Valley Pesticides participate in increasing the agriculture production and meeting the increasing needs to food. Meanwhile, its risk on environmental system considered as one of the most important challenges that facing human in the recent time. The aim of this study was to measure the degree of awareness of vegetables’ farmers towards usage of pesticides in Jordan Valley through measuring the level of knowledge and determination the range of implementation of safe methods in using pesticides, and determination the most important source of information that farmers use to know how to deal with pesticides and how to store it and how to dispose its remains. In order to achieve the objectives of the research, a 316 questionnaire was distributed on farmers in the southern Jordan Valley, after being evaluated by validity and reliability test. The results of the study showed that there was a high level of environmental awareness in general towards usage of pesticides and its negative side effects on surrounded environment. Results of agriculture researches were the most important source of information for farmers. Also, the results showed that the most used method in the field is sprinkler spryer and spraying machines holds on tractor. The use of the whole quantity of the spraying material was the most important procedure to avoid the pesticides. Storing pesticides was the most important method used to store pesticides. A sample survey of public agricultural extension agents was conducted covering the whole Agricultural Directorates in the country. The survey employed a structured questionnaire with pre-coded questions. The entire sample consists of 107 agricultural extension agents. To achieve its goals qualitative as well as quantitative analytical procedures were adopted in this study. A Four point likert-scales was used to compute the respondents overall mean score. The study provided empirical evidence about the lack of agricultural marketing extension among extension methods used by public extension agents in Jordan. Public extension agents in Jordan consider agricultural marketing extension with low priority during their extensive activity. Public agricultural extension activities should be directed to enhance marketing extension activities. Extension methods such as newspapers, radio, TV, mobile, internet and experts systems should be strongly considered to spread marketing knowledge to the farmers.
